An exceptional harvest of European funding for UNIFR researchers

The University of Fribourg has obtained three prestigious ERC Starting Grants ‒ funding of €1.5 million for particularly innovative research projects. The three laureates are Dr Nathalie Stroeymeyt and Professor Stefano Vanni, both in biology, and Professor Holger Herz, in economics.

In Switzerland, UNIFR's success in this round of ERC grants is outstanding. Only ETH Zurich gets more (4). EPFL and the University of Zurich also received three.

It is also a milestone for the Biology Department, which hosts two of the three winners. Research in this department is experiencing spectacular growth, with the recent arrival of two new professors widely recognized for their research, Thomas Flatt and Laure Weisskopf.
