The Department of Economics, Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (Germany) seeks to fill a position for a

Research Assistant

at the Chair of Monetary Economics and International Finance with a three year fixed term appointment starting December 1st, 2015. The salary is based on the German public pay scale (TV-L,13) with a week-ly workload corresponding to a half-time position with 19.35 hours. The position is open to both early career researchers wishing to pursue a dissertation or to candidates holding a PhD wishing to pursue advanced research within the fields of specialization of our group. The positon can be extended after the initial period and can be upgraded in the medium run to three-quarters (for PhD-students) or a full position (for post-docs).

Area of Activity:
Tasks include general cooperation in research and teaching activities of our chair. You will have to teach one course per semester in economics and/or quantitative finance at the Bachelor and/or Masters level, with a weekly teaching load of two hours. The successful applicant will also have to share the administrative duties of our unit.
Current research pursued at the Chair of Monetary Economics and International Finance covers the fol-lowing topics:
•    Estimation of agent-based models of financial markets
•    Analysis of network structures within the financial sector
•    Modelling of asset price volatility and risk management

Employment prerequisites:
The ideal candidate will have recently graduated with a Diploma or Masters in economics or a related field (business studies, physics, mathematics, computer science) or will have completed a topical dis-sertation, and is expected to have:
•    Fundamental knowledge in economic theory, statistics and econometrics
•    Knowledge in programming, experience with GAUSS and/or C+
•    Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken
•    Cooperativeness, i.e., ability to work in a team
•    Independence and commitment
