Fribourg's multilingual Shakespeare: creative learning

In 2014, as part of the University of Fribourg’s Jubilee celebrations, students from a number of departments joined English students in presenting a multilingual adaptation of Shakespeare’s Love’s Labour’s Lost.  The project was a sell-out success and led to the creation of the Swiss Stage Bards, who have since staged multilingual adaptations of several other Shakespeare plays. The reflections of the students and their audiences are collected and discussed in an article by Professor Elisabeth Dutton for a volume of essays that explore the use of creative techniques in teaching (Creating Playful First Encounters with the Pre-Modern Past, eds. Helen Brookman and Olivia Robinson, Leeds: Arc Humanities Press, 2023). The paper is available here[pdf].
