Der/die zukünftige Stelleninhaber/in hat ein Doktorat in englischer oder amerikanischer Literatur und deckt durch eine substantielle Publikationstätigkeit vielfältige Themen im Bereich der amerikanischen Literatur ab. Es wird erwartet, dass er/sie Lehrveranstaltungen zum gesamten Gebiet der amerikanischen Literatur (Kolonialzeit bis 21. Jh.; 6 SWS; 4 SWS bei Besetzung im tenure track Verfahren) im BA- und MA-Studium unterrichtet und BA/MA-Abschlussarbeiten sowie Dissertationen betreut. Eine weitere Anforderung ist die Bereitschaft, literaturhistorische Überblicksvorlesungen regelmässig und auf allen Studienebenen zu unterrichten.

Kandidaten/innen sollten eine Forschungs- und Publikationstätigkeit im gewünschten Bereich mit internationaler Ausstrahlung ausweisen können sowie Erfahrung in universitärer Lehre und Verwaltung haben. Sie demonstrieren die Fähigkeit und den Willen zur Integration in das Departement und die Fakultät sowie ihre Bereitschaft zur Zusammenarbeit mit dem Institut für Allgemeine und Vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft. Die Übernahme administrativer Aufgaben, die Leitung von Forschungsprojekten und das Einwerben von Drittmitteln zur Forschung wird erwartet. Erfahrungen in diesen Bereichen müssen vorgewiesen werden.

Die Lehre im Departement findet ausschliesslich in englischer Sprache statt. Die offiziellen Sprachen der Fakultät und Universität sind Französisch und Deutsch.  Funktionale Kenntnisse einer offiziellen Sprache sind für die administrativen Aufgaben notwendig, passive Kenntnisse der anderen Sprache könnten von Vorteil sein.

The successful candidate will possess a doctorate in English or American literature and a substantial publication record covering a diverse array of topics in the field of American literature. They will be expected to teach courses in the entire field of American literature (colonial period to twenty-first century; 6 hours/week/semester; 4 hours for a tenure track hire) at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and will supervise BA, MA and doctoral theses. Additionally, the willingness to teach literary-historical survey lectures regularly and at all levels of study is a requirement.

Candidates should have a proven record of scholarship and publication in the field at an international level and experience in university teaching and administration. They will demonstrate their ability and willingness to integrate themselves into the department and faculty, as well as to collaborate with the Institute of Comparative Literature. They will also be expected to take on administrative tasks, to direct research projects, to acquire external research funding and to show experience in these areas.

Teaching in the department is conducted exclusively in English. The administrative languages of the Faculty and the University are French and German. Functional knowledge of one official language is required to interact with the administration, passive knowledge of the other might be an advantage.

Starting date is August 1^st, 2025.
