    Description

This practical course gives an introduction to psychological interviewing which is one of the most important methods of psychological intervention. It will introduce some basic theoretical models as well as the practice of specific skills, such as offering simple and complex reflections, collaboratively supporting client autonomy, etc. But, far from being a simple collection of techniques, the psychological interviewing is an helping relationship, that is a part of a concerted setting, where a helper seeks to encourage a change in the helpee in the way they feel and think about themselves, and their physical or social environment, and in the way they behave towards themselves and their environment.

This practical course offers the initiation of skills which are prerequisites to the practical course of 'Advanced Skills' in the clinical option of our Master in Psychology.

    Training objectives

This practical course has as generic objectives to allow (1) to understand the nature and the stakes of the know-how essential to work in a formal setting of helping relationship, (2) a first use of these know-how in a position as a helper, and (3) to engage in the experience of being a client in a helping relationship.

It provides the following knowledge and skills:

    Knowledge

    • know how to define the psychological and counseling interview
    • know the characteristics of a helping relationship setting
    • raise awareness of ethical issues in the relationship
    • introduce themselves to the basic attitudes of the helping relationship and listening behaviors

    Know how :
    • Know how to formulate therapeutic responses according to the basic attitudes of the helping relationship
    • Knowing how to evaluate the statements of a person being cared for and his own actions as a carer – using evaluation scales.

    Exam :

This practical course is validated by (1) a written test on the theoretical concepts, (2) the filing of a brief transcription of an interview carried out and (3) compulsory attendance at all practical sessions.
