    Description

    The importance of values in career counseling and development has grown, as evidenced by the widespread need for and use of values surveys and values-based tools by career counselors, vocational psychologists, work and organizational psychologists, and other career advisors and development practitioners. This course/seminar aims to provide students in psychology with foundational and applied knowledge to guide their understanding and work in this area. The course/seminar will a) examine the role values play in contemporary careers from various theoretical and empirical perspectives, b) explore values assessment tools and interventions within vocational and counseling psychology and career development. The course/seminar is primarily directed toward graduate students interested in expanding their understanding of the crucial role values play in individuals’ lives, particularly in their careers, and in applying this knowledge to address contemporary career-related issues through personal and teamwork activities.

    Training objectives

    Upon completing this course/seminar, students will be able to:

    • Understand major concepts, theoretical perspectives, measurement scales, empirical findings, and practical interventions related to work and life values.

    • Apply critical and creative thinking, theoretical models, scientific evidence, or personal experience to solve problems related to relevant career issues.

    Condition of access

    The course/seminar is directed primarily toward graduate students who are interested in developing their ideas and understanding on the important role that values plays in the lives of individuals and especially in their careers and use their knowledge to address contemporary career-related issues through personal and team works.
