    Description

    Limited to 20 participants.

Stress is an everyday phenomenon that affects the whole human being. Although its negative effects on physical and mental health have been broadly studied, the effects of stress on everyday social decisions and behavior are not conclusively clarified. This seminar will introduce students to the psychobiology of stress and social interactions. It will cover recent and ongoing advances in our understanding of the stress protective effects of social interactions as well as the behavioral effects of acute and chronic stress itself. Moreover we will identify important challenges that await future research. During the first part of the seminar I will give an introduction to experimental stress research methods and provide you with an overview on the theoretical background and most relevant experimental findings within the field. Students will then select specific topics and prepare a short presentation as well as a discussion for the second part of the seminar. The talks should concentrate on recent experimental findings in stress research and include an outlook as well as a written summary. From a research based perspective we will discuss applications of stress induction and stress management within the field of e. g. psychotherapy, counseling, rehabilitation, sports psychology.

    Training objectives

Students will gain an overview of the current literature and develop expertise in experimental stress research
