Renovation of the Chemistry Building at the University of Fribourg

The winning project in the architectural competition for the complete renovation of the chemistry building PER10 at the University of Freiburg, “La transformation” was presented at an opening on Wednesday, 24 January 2024 at the Department of Chemistry. Nine projects with different conceptual approaches were submitted to the competition. The winning project and the three other award-winning projects were presented to the public at the opening on Wednesday, in the presence of State Councilor Sylvie Bonvin-Sansonnens, State Councilor Jean-François Steiert, University Rector Astrid Epiney, the President of the Department of Chemistry, Ali Coskun, and the cantonal architect Michel Grabe.

The exhibition with the various projects will take place from January 25th to February 7th on the ground floor of PER10. Free to visit Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (until February 7th at noon).

The existing building PER10 of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Freiburg needs to be completely renovated. One of the main goals of the overall renovation is the complete renovation of the facade and the technology required for the use of the chemistry laboratories.

Last spring, the Building Construction Authority (HBA) announced an architectural competition for this purpose. In the next step, the commissioned architects and technicians will develop a preliminary project, followed by the actual construction project. According to current plans, construction is not scheduled to begin until 2026 at the earliest.
