Prof. Robin Mansell awarded honorary doctorate by the University of Fribourg


The University of Fribourg’s Faculty Management, Economics and Social Sciences has awarded its honorary doctorate 2020 to Prof. Dr. Robin Mansell, Professor of «New Media and the Internet» in the Department of Media and Communications at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). In her groundbreaking research, Prof. Mansell focuses on societal consequences of digital platforms and on media policy.

Following the suggestion of its Department of Communication and Media Research DCM, the University of Fribourg’s Faculty Management, Economics and Social Sciences has awarded its honorary doctorate 2020 to Prof. Dr. Robin Mansell.

Robin Mansell is Professor of «New Media and the Internet» in the Department of Media and Communications at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and a leading scholar at the intersection of media, technology, markets, and democracy. In her research, Prof. Mansell critically analyzes the economic, political, and social consequences of new communication technologies as well as media policy and internet governance. Her current research addresses the political economy of «platformization» and «datafication» and its consequences for society.

While the honorary doctorate was made public on November 10, 2020 , the award ceremony had to be postponed to next year due to COVID-19. At that point, Prof. Mansell will also deliver a public lecture at the University of Fribourg.
