Tame your PhD: how to develop as a PhD student

The thought of your PhD certainly fills you with a lot of excitement and there is no doubt that you feel very committed to your project… At the same time, you may feel lost in the competitive jungle of scientific research, as well as overwhelmed by the number of research options to choose from. You may have had the impression that writing a PhD is similar to sitting on a roller coaster, and wished you were better equipped to keep your motivation intact and achieve success.

You don’t have to stay alone with such feelings! This group is designed for PhD students, standing anywhere between the beginning and the middle of their dissertation journey. The underlying aim of the group is to sharpen your global vision of the requirements of academic life, to help you discover your unique way forward, and to help you land the job position you want.

During our meetings, you will be invited to bring up the topics, concerns, and interrogations that are relevant to you, such as: How to clarify my goals? How to deal with gremlins and evil spirits? How to manage spinning feelings and self-doubts? How to enjoy the learning process instead of expecting satisfaction from the final product only? How to find the right work-life balance? What is the best way to build a scientific and professional network and to establish a reputation?

The programme includes group meetings as well as individual coaching meetings. It will provide guidance for creating a work environment that best supports your potential and will be fine-tuned to allow for a direct translation of advice and recommendations into successful action.
