Biography

2006-2012: BA and MA in Art History at the Yerevan State University. 2013-2017: PhD at the University of Fribourg on the topic “Royal Images of the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia (1198-1375) in the Context of Mediterranean Intercultural Exchange” (thesis defence November 2017, with summa cum laude). 2016-2017: research fellow at the Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa. Reciepent of Best Conference Paper Award 2015, awarded by the Society for Armenian Studies (California State University, Fresno), and grant holder of Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship 2013-2016, Zeno Karl Schindler Foundation (Geneva), NAASR (National Association for Armenian Studies and Research, Belmont), AGBU (New York), Getty Foundation (Los Angeles), Samuel H. Kress Foundation (New York).

2012-2017: junior researcher in the Department of Codicology and Department of Art History at the Matenadaran Research Institute of Ancient Manuscripts, Yerevan. 2017-2022: postdoc researcher in the SNSF project “Royal Epiphanies: The King’s Body as Image and Its Mise-en-scène in Medieval Mediterranean, 12th-14th Centuries” (University of Fribourg). 2020: Contribution to the SNSF Ambizione research project "Navel of the World: Cross-Cultural Encounters at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, 1400-1600" (University of Bern). 2022-2023: senior researcher in the SNSF project "Cutural Interactions in the Medieval Subcaucasian Region: Historiographical and Art-Historical Perspectives" (University of Fribourg). 2024: lecturer at the Mediävistisches Institut Fribourg. 2024: senior researcher in the SNSF project "Holy Networks: Locating, Shaping, and Experiencing Palestinian Loca Sancta (1187-1852)" (University of Fribourg).
