Research Scientist (Post-Doc)

The Institute of Economics at Kiel University is seeking to fill a position for a

 Research Scientist
(at post doctoral level with a 3/4 position on German public pay scale E 14)

to contribute to the work within the ongoing research project “Financial Distortions and Macroeconomic Performance: Expectations, Constraints, and Interaction of Agents” funded by the European Commission.

The position should be filled at the level of experienced post-doctoral researchers to do stand-alone research in the defined research areas of the project. Starting date for the position is January 1st, 2016, the appointment is until 31 December 2016 because of termination of this project by this time, a prolongation is not possible.. The position would be equivalent to ¾ of a full position (weekly workload of 29,025 hours).

The intention of this project is to develop new and improve existing approaches to better understand the role of financial markets in the economy and their potentially destabilizing features. The project is conducted by a consortium including seven international partners of which the Kiel unit acts as coordinator. Particular questions in which research is conducted at CAU include: nonlinear econometric modeling of financial markets, agent-based modeling, network modeling of the interbank market, and econometric validation of agent-based and traditional macro models. Due to the role of Kiel as consortium coordinator, successful candidates also have to take over part of the administrative tasks of the dissemination of the results of the project as responsibilities of the advertised positions. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of this project, applications from candidates with a Ph.D. in economics or an equivalent degree in, e.g., physics, mathematics, or computer science are encouraged. Fluency in English is required; knowledge of German would be appreciated, but is not mandatory.
