Professor Thomas Lux, Department of Economics, Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (Germany), seeks to fill positions for a

Research Assistant

within the ongoing DFG-Project “Multifraktale Modelle von Finanzrenditen: Multivariate Erweiterung, empirische Schätzung und Anwendung im Risikomanagement [Multifractal models of asset returns]“ with a one year fixed term appointment, starting April 1st, 2011.
The salary is based on the German public pay scale (TV-L 13,) with a weekly workload corresponding to a half-time position with 19,35 hours.
Area of Activity:

Employment prerequisites:
The ideal candidate will have recently graduated with a Diploma/Masters or Ph.D in economics or a related field (business studies, physics, mathematics, computer science), and is expected to have:
• Fundamental knowledge in econometrics and statistics
• Knowledge in programming, experience with GAUSS and/or C+
• Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken
• Cooperativeness, i.e., ability to work in a team,
• Independence and commitment

Research Assistant
at the doctoral dissertation level

with a two year fixed term appointment starting April, 1st, 2011. The salary is based on the German public pay scale (TV-L 13,) with a weekly workload corresponding to
a half-time position with 19,35 hours.
Area of Activity:
Tasks include general cooperation in research and teaching activities of our chair. You will have to teach one course per semester in economics and/or quantitative finance at the Bachelor and/or Masters level, carrying a weekly teaching load of two hours. The successful applicant will also have to take over administrative duties. Employment as a research assistant is connected with writing a dissertation. Topics for your dissertation should be chosen from the main research areas of the chair: theoretical and empirical research on financial markets; simulation of trading processes on financial markets.

The Kiel Institute for the World Economy (Germany) is seeking to fill two positions for

Research Scientists

to contribute to the work of the Research Area Financial Markets and Macroeconomic Activity within a project on Network Effects and Systematic Risk in the Banking Sector.
One of these positions is a full time post-doc position (weekly workload of 38.70 hours) and is targeted towards an experienced scientist holding a PhD in an appropriate subject. The second position is part time (19.35 hours) and is targeted towards a new doctoral student who will pursue his PhD in the research area defined by the project. The salary is based on the German public pay scale (TV-L 13) Appointment are initially for one year, with the perspective of subsequent prolongation for the complete duration of this project (three years). The positions can be filled immediately.
The intention of this project is to investigate the structure and development of linkages within the financial sector, combining a network-based approach from the natural sciences with economic analysis. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of this project applications from candidates both with a Diploma/Masters or Ph.D. in economics or an equivalent degree in physics, mathematics, or computer science) are encouraged. Fluency in English is required; knowledge of German would be appreciated, but is not mandatory.
