Emma Depledge's work reviewed in the Times Literary Supplement

We would like to congratulate our colleague Emma Depledge, whose book Shakespeare's Rise to Cultural Prominence (CUP, 2018) was recently reviewed in the Times Literary Supplement.  According to the author of the review, Elisabeth Scott-Baumann, "Emma Depledge's incisive new book demonstrates that a major shift in Shakespeare's reputation happened nearly a hundred years before Garrick's Jubilee". She adds that "Depledge's book combines very detailed, ample evidence (in text and also in tables and notes) with great clarity, demonstrating the sustained impact of the Exclusion Crisis 'not just on Shakespeare's popularity as a playwright but also his reputation as a defender of the monarchy'."
