What my PhD thesis is about

The tourism is an important sector of the economy. Nowadays, the offer does not stop diversifying. Past the rush of the mass tourism, the travelers are using more and more the internet when planning their journeys. Furthermore, an even more recent phenomenon has been observed as the travelers do not wish anymore to be subject to the existing offer, but on the contrary to participate in the production of the tourist services. This work takes the last perspective. In fact, from a database of tourist offers the objective is to create and to present the best possible organized trips in terms of accommodations and activities considering the wishes and the preferences of the user on his future journey. The optimality defines itself on several levels: for example, the respect for the traveler’s wishes, the quality and the variety of the accommodations and activities proposed, the compliance with the available budget, etc. At first, it’s about extracting from the database the accommodations and activities corresponding to the wishes of the traveler. Secondly, from this reduced database, it will be a matter of creating organized trips, including in every stage an accommodation and diverse activities. The use of a genetic algorithm will help run the system.
