Trains

The train is the most widely used means of transportation in Switzerland. There is a Half-Price pass that costs 175.- CHF for one year.
There are also Day-Passes that allow you unlimited travel on the Swiss Transport network (including buses and public transportation). These cards are available at a reduced rate (36.- CHF) at the University in the AGEF office.

Urban transportation

The TPF (Transports Publics Fribourgeois) handles the public transportation for the Fribourg region. Bus tickets are sold in the automats at each stop (beware some machines do not return change). Tickets can also be bought through sms (please read information on the tickets machines to know how to proceed) for 2.70 CHF.

Taxi

Taxi is quite expensive, even for small trips. Each trip starts with a flat rate of 7.- CHF + between 3.- CHF and 4.- CHF per km (depending on the traveling zone).

Opening hours

Stores close, in general, at 6:30 or 7 during the week and at 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Stores are closed on Sundays with some exceptions (mainly shops in the train stations, for example Coop at the train station is opened 7/7).

Banks close at 4:30 - 5 p.m. during the week and are closed on weekends.

The Post Office closes on Saturdays at 4 p.m. (Fribourg Main Post Office) and is closed on Sundays.

Electric power and plugs

Alternating Current (AC) 220V/50 Hz. As with most countries, Switzerland has its own type of electrical outlet and plug. An adapter and even a converter are sometimes necessary for appliances you wish to take with you.
