Russia - Ukraine - Belarus: A Common Civilizational Space?

A public debate with Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev), Moscow, in the Aula Magna of the University of Fribourg:

His Holiness Patriarch Kirill has called the recent events in Ukraine a “civilizational catastrophe”. A panel with representatives from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus will discuss the question if there is a common civilization that unites the population of different states, languages, cultures in a common Church life, with reference to values and with a mode of life different from the actual Western lifestyle. Is Europe willing and able to integrate such an alternative project into the “Common House”? What is the role of the Orthodox Church in promoting the “European idea”?
