Second and foreign language teaching and learning, multilingual didactics, and language testing

Led by Prof Thomas Studer, this research group is concerned with empirical work in the following areas:

  • Language teaching and learning, with a focus on research methods
  • Methods of foreign and second language teaching and multilingual didactics with the following focuses: task-based language learning and teaching, corpus-linguistic approaches to language learning, cultural studies and language learning, German as a pluricentric language
  • Language testing with a focus on test development and validation, formal and informal testing of linguistic and cultural competencies, evaluation of teaching and classroom practices

Research in these areas follows an evidence-based approach, and research methods are based on both, quantitative and qualitative approaches.
