  • PhD position in Development Microeconomics

    The Chair of Development Economics is seeking applications for a 5-year (100%) PhD position. We are looking for a candidate with a strong research interest in microeconomics applied to developing countries. The focus of the position is on research, with a small workload on assistance for teaching and administration of the Chair. Participation to the department’s scientific activities is expected.

    The Chair's expertise lies in the empirical analysis of broad microeconomic and policy- relevant topics. The Chair's empirical work employs a wide range of different methodologies, and applies it to questions related to health, fertility, poverty, household structure, labor market frictions...

  • Post-doc position in economics and/or related disciplines

    As part of a research collaboration with a major Swiss insurance company, the Center for Competitiveness in the Department of Economics at the University of Fribourg is seeking to recruit one post-doc researcher for a 2 years period (3rd year to be confirmed at a later stage). This researchers will play a crucial role in a collaborative research project titled “Policies and Corporate Strategies for Strengthening the Sustainable Economic and Social Competitiveness of Switzerland.” The project's team is composed of researchers from diverse fields including economics, management, communication, law, and sociology. This initiative is part of a broader cluster called "The Future of Switzerland," consisting of four interlinked research projects, embracing an interdisciplinary approach. The areas that can be addressed will touch on issues of economic and social policies such as smart regions and cities, energy transition, corporate and policy strategies for addressing climate change, the creation of value by businesses, sociological and societal issues related to sustainable development to name just a few examples. The postdoc's expertise in specific domains may also influence the project's directions

    La Faculté des Sciences Économiques et Sociales et du Management de l’Université de Fribourg (Suisse) met au concours un poste à plein temps de Professeur-e assistant-e (tenure track) ou Professeur-e ordinaire (Full) en Management Stratégique  au sein du Département des Sciences du Management.     Le-la titulaire du poste sera responsable d’enseignements en français et en anglais en Bachelor et en Master.     Am Departement für Volkswirtschaftslehre an der Wirtschafts-und Sozialwissenschaftliche Fakultät der Universität Freiburg/Schweiz,  ist die Stelle einer/eines Assistentin / Assistenten zu besetzen. Sie kann ab dem 1.9.2023 als Diplom- (mit MA) oder Unterassistentenstelle (mit BA) besetzt und flexibel angetreten werden.

  • Professor (tenured) in “Digital Communication and Datafication” associated with the position as chair of the Institute for Digital Communication and Media Innovation

    The Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences of the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) invites applications for the full-time position of Professor (tenured) in “Digital Communication and Datafication". The professorship is with the Department of Communication and Media Research DCM and comes with one fully funded PhD position. Moreover, the successful candidate will chair the University’s “Institute for Digital Communication and Media Innovation” (IDCMI) in Chur and Fribourg that includes additional research positions. The main place of work is Chur; a regular presence in Fribourg including the attendance of meetings and events is required. The appointment begins in fall 2023.

    The professorship first requires a specialization in the digital transformation of media, communication, and the public sphere from a social scientific perspective. Research experience in a field like media innovation, journalism and/or media literacy is not mandatory, but would be of particular interest. Second, candidates should be familiar with digital social scientific research methods (quantitative methods like big data analysis and computational communication science as well as qualitative methods). Third, they should be able to offer critical perspectives on the datafication and platformization of communication as well as on the implications of these developments for individual users, media organizations, media markets, the communication of organizations and/or democratic society.

    Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. in communication studies or a closely related discipline (with proven experience in media and communication). They need a strong publication record (including peer-reviewed articles in international journals) as well as positively evaluated teaching experience in the required specialization. Given the expectation to chair the IDCMI, experience in acquiring competitive third-party research grants is required, leadership experience is desirable.

    Teaching takes place in Chur, Fribourg, and other locations in Switzerland. The teaching load is 6-7 hours per week and includes German and English language courses in the master program “Digital Communication and Creative Media Production” (jointly offered by the University of Fribourg and the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons) and in the master program “Communication and Society” (offered by the University of Fribourg). The position thus requires proficiency in German and English. Administrative languages at the University of Fribourg are German and French. A passive knowledge of French is expected in the medium term.

  • 4-year Post-Doc position at the Chair of Industrial Economics

    We are looking for a candidate with a strong interest in behavioral and experimental economics. The position is available as of September 1st 2022, but the starting date could be flexibly postponed until February 1st 2023.

     An interest in behavioral economics and experimental methods is required. The position is focused on conducting research and carries a limited teaching load. 50% of the position are financed through the University of Fribourg, the other 50% through a Swiss National Science Foundation grant on “Incentive Contracts with Nonstandard Beliefs and Errors in Statistical Reasoning.” The position includes a travel budget for participation in international conferences.

    Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in economics or a related field, preferably with a specialization in behavioral economics, organizational economics and /or empirical (experimental) methods.
