    We'll begin this seminar talking about genre: what is autobiography? What is Memoir?  What is meant by Life Writing? And why are these genres so prominent in American literature?  We will investigate the specific American manifestations of the genres and evaluate their roles in shaping the public discourse in the past twenty years.
