Description This seminar focuses on the human-environment relationship from a historical perspective. It explores background, theory, methodology and case studies of Environmental History, a young and dynamic field of scholarship with contributions from History, Environmental Sciences, Geography and others disciplines. In this seminar, special attention is given to exploring Environmental History from a Geography perspective. The seminar is composed of three parts. The first part serves to establish the scope and background of Environmental History. It focuses on environmental thought, historical theories and interdisciplinary science. The second part centres on case studies in Environmental History which have shaped and are still shaping the conceptual and empirical orientation of the field (ex. Resurrecting the Granary of Rome by Diana K. Davis). In the third part, the focus of the seminar is on methodologies for Environmental History (ex. Oral History).

    Prerequisite (highly recommended) : GG.0484.
Training objectives Participants acquire a thorough knowledge of concepts and methodologies in Environmental History in this seminar, which enables them to further engage with Environmental History in either research (ex. Master or PhD theses) or practice.
