    Description Topics of the course are:

    - raw materials
    - manufacturing of cement
    - cement mineralogy
    - cement microstructures
    - energetics of cement production
    - cement hydration
    - concrete
    - aggregates
    - chemical adelitives
    - performance of fresh concrete
    - mechanical properties of concrete
    - domage processes: carbonatization, alkali-silica-reaction
    - glass making
    - glass defects
    During the course a cement manufacturing plant will be visited.
    Training objectives The course gives an introduction into the scientific, engineering, environmental and economic aspects of cement and glass production. The parrticipants will be able to assess the quality of a cement/glass (mineralogy, microstructure, ...) ande to tune production parameters to improve it. They will learn how to control the hydration process of Portland cement and the physicochemical performance of concrete. Chemistry and Petrography tools will be given to recognizen and to quantity domage processes in concrete.
