Description WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR: This course is for researchers (PhD, doctoral students) and academic staff who want to refine and advance their public speaking and/or oral presentations skills. This course is not open to Masters and Bachelor students.
NOTE: This course requires you to complete an Online Test and have an oral interview. Please visit the Language Centre website for further information https://www3.unifr.ch/centredelangues/en/courses/students/registration/
Description: If you are an experienced presenter you will have the opportunity to hone your presentation skills in terms of language use and effective presentation methods, as well as your ability to connect with a wider audience from different backgrounds. If you have not yet presented, this is a chance for you to practice presenting in a supportive environment and receive constructive peer and teacher feedback. You will also benefit from the opportunity to engage and share information with peers about your respective disciplines.
This class intends to be highly interactive so that participants receive as much practice speaking English as possible. You will regularly give mini-presentations focused on fine-tuning discrete skills (ex. presenting a graphic, transitioning, fielding difficult questions, etc.) and pending class size working up to a longer presentation suitable for a general audience. You will be asked to reflect on your strengths and weaknesses on an ongoing basis, and the progress that you make during the course. Giving constructive peer feedback is considered an integral part of this course as well.
Evaluation: Participants are awarded a pass for successful completion of the course. Regular attendance (80% attendance ref: Bologna Process) and engaged participation in lessons is required in order to pass the course, as well as timely completion of all formal assignments & presentations. Students can request a certificate of completion from the secretary’s office.
