    Description

Part of the challenge when studying the English language from a scientific perspective has to do with the specific research methods required. In this practical course we will focus on the methodologies associated with fieldwork investigation, basic experimental designs, data collection, data analysis, quantitative analysis, etc. taking a hands-on approach informed by the very projects students are working on.

As we develop your project, we will see how to implement the right methods when testing a hypothesis and building a theoretical model for the feature of the English language that interests you.

This course is primarily intended for students taking the Applied Project in English Linguistics in Module 8 of the BALET; it would also be of interest for students doing empirical work for their BA thesis in English linguistics. While MA students working on empirical projects could also benefit from the kind of practical support offered in the course. The course structure will be closely linked to students' individual projects.
