    Description Chromatography and Sample Preparation
Training objectives Understanding the basic principles of separation and how they can be applied in modern analytical chemistry
Comments This course gives a general insight into the principles of chromatography and sample preparation by highlighting thermodynamic and kinetic aspects enabling separation and causing band broadening. Furthermore the course discusses the fundamental instrumental separation techniques most commonly used, such as GC and GC/MS, LC and LC/MS, ion chromatography, size-exclusion chromatography and capillary electrophoresis. The course finishes with exercises on general problems and troubleshooting. The course aims to explain the basic aspects of separation techniques and how they are used in practice. Also discussed are steps to be taken for method development, detection and methods of calibration for quantification.
