    Description

This seminar introduces students to the concepts of Political Ecology from a geographical perspective. We will explore current debates, key conceptual approaches, regional differences, and examine recent research, with a focus on the theoretical and methodological orientations that set political ecology apart from other critical approaches to the environment. Students are expected to read, analyse, and discuss a range of publications, as well as to provide their own perspectives and inputs, in order to stimulate debate. The seminar can vary in content and form every year, and may have a non-conventional character, depending on the participants.

A good command of English is necessary in order to succeed.

It is highly recommended to have completed the Seminar in Social Theories (SGG.00484) before taking this course.

Training objectives To be successful in this course, you need to critically apply your knowledge and understanding to new materials, and to link them to broader contexts related to your field of study, and your MSc project, when relevant. You will also be expected to systematically formulate judgements in both written and oral form, based on the materials covered in this class and in this MSc programme, and reflect upon the (scientific, social and ethical) implications associated with these. By leading discussions, participating actively in class, and peer-reviewing the work of your classmates, you will develop essential communication skills.
