    Description

This course focuses on advanced concepts of light-material interactions. It builds up on the fundamental framework of spectroscopy, introduces selected synchrotron-based techniques for in situ experiments and, introduces spectroscopic imaging and scattering techniques for nanomaterial characterisation.

    Training objectives
    • Understand how electromagnetic radiation interacts with matter.
    • Reflect on differences between spectroscopy and scattering.
    • Understand the concept of scattering (scattering vector, wave interference).
    • Discuss light sources including synchrotron set-ups.
    • Interpret spectroscopy and scattering data and apply to chemistry / material questions.
    • Apply the concepts outlined above to solve selected chemical problems.
