    Description

This is a highly interactive and challenging workshop-style course, covering typical situations in which you will need to speak English in academic contexts. This course is open to all students and staff from across the university with an intermediate to upper-intermediate level of English (B1-B2).

The main areas of focus on this oral communication course include: delivering presentations, participating in group discussions and pronunciation activities. Regular interaction with interesting and engaging reading and listening texts will provide the ideal platform in which to develop your speaking skills, in terms of your fluency, accuracy and pronunciation. We will also explore and review key areas of grammar and vocabulary in context so that you will have a better idea about what language to use in different situations. Along the way you will also be encouraged to develop your critical thinking skills and to express your ideas more effectively and efficiently, across a range of academic disciplines.

Evaluation: Regular attendance and active participation is required to pass this course, as is the successful completion of all 4 speaking assignments. In meeting these requirements and based on your performance in the speaking tasks, you will be awarded a final grade and receive a certificate of completion from the Language Centre secretary’s office. You will also earn 3 ECTS.

This course can be taken with B1-B2 Introducing Academic English: Written Communication in Academic Contexts.
