    Description

This is an interactive and practical workshop-style course for all students across the university with an intermediate to upper-intermediate level of English (B1-B2). From emails to essays this course is ideal for students who would like to develop their writing skills for academic purposes.

The main areas of focus on this course include: e-mail communication; review of English verb tenses and sentence structure; connecting ideas in writing (cohesion); how to write in a more formal, academic style; how to write a well-structured paragraph; how to write different types of academic essays (argumentative and problem-solution); and finally, how to write about about changes and trends. Throughout the course we will also explore and review key areas of grammar and vocabulary in context so that you will have a better idea about what language to use in different forms of written communication in academic, business and general everyday contexts. Along the way you will also be encouraged to develop your critical thinking skills and to express your ideas more effectively and efficiently, across a range of academic disciplines

Evaluation: Regular attendance and active participation is required to pass this course, as is the successful completion of all 4 formal written assignments. Upon successful completion of the course you will receive a final grade and a certificate of achievement from the Language Centre secretary’s office. You will also earn 3 ECTS.

This course can be taken with B1-B2 Introducing Academic English: Oral Communication in Academic Contexts.
