The student is able to describe the principal embryological development of the kidney and the urinary tract and based on it to interpret the clinical relevant malformations. In adults, the students knows the structures at the microscopic and macroscopic level, the blood supply and innervation of the kidney and urinary tract, as well as their topographical relations. During the dissecting course the students obtain a 3-dimensional structural perception and based on it are able to interpret the results of different imaging procedures.
The student is able to describe the principal embryological development of the gut and to know and to show on anatomical specimens all parts and organs of the gastrointestinal tract in the adult, to know the topographical relations as well as to name the vascularisation and innervation. He is able to deduce the histological aspects of the entire digestive tract including the associated glands (pancreas, liver) and put it in relation with the functions of the different parts of the digestive tract. He is able to draw a scheme of the histological organization of the digestive tract. The student is well grounded in basic notions about human nutrition and digestion, and is able to describe how the various digestive functions (mechanical, secretory and absorptive) are coordinated by various neural and endocrine regulators.
