Mit Decent Work und Guter Arbeit verbinden sich Konzepte, die langfristig auf die Verbesserung der Arbeits- und Lebensbedingungen von Menschen hinwirken möchten. Das Konzept der Decent Work wurde von der International Labour Organisation im Jahre 1999 etabliert:

“Decent work is defined by the ILO and endorsed by the international community as productive work for women and men in conditions of freedom, equity, security and human dignity. Decent work involves opportunities for work that: is productive and delivers a fair income; provides security in the workplace and social protection for workers and their families; offers prospects for personal development and encourages social integration; gives people the freedom to express their concerns, to organize and to participate in decisions that affect their lives; and guarantees equal opportunities and equal treatment for all.” (ILO 2008b: iv).

Der Deutsche Gewerkschaftsbund (DGB) hat im Jahr 2007 den Index Gute Arbeit entwickelt, um die Arbeitsbedingungen der Beschäftigten kontinuierlich erheben und verbessern zu können. Dieser Kurs untersucht die beiden Konzepte und deren Anwendungen auf die Arbeits- und Lebensbedingungen von Menschen. Nachdem die verschiedenen Konzepte vorgestellt wurden, werden regional und inhaltlich verschiedene Themen untersucht: Arbeiten und Digitalisierung, Care-Work, Global Supply Chains, Arbeitszeit, Cuba, Deutschland, Indonesien, Schweiz Südafrika etc.

Leistungsanforderungen (3 ECTS)

Kursbesuch: Regelmässige, aktive Teilnahme (Anwesenheitspflicht)
Kurslektüre: Lesen der Pflichtlektüre
Referate: Referat und Handout, sowie Essay
