    Description

The course has two parts. The first covers basics of programming in Python: data structures, the use of modules, and plotting. The second part addresses basic numerical topics: linear algebra, root finding, integration, solving differential equations with particular emphasis on physics (Monte Carlo simulations, Ising model, quantum mechanics).

    Training objectives

Computer simulations, data processing, and graphical presentation of results are nowadays indispensable. This course provides a quick introduction to modern numerical tools for physics research and beyond. Besides regular homework assignments, every student will choose a project to solve by numerical simulations. Solutions will be presented at the end of the semester.

Comments After a series of lectures at the beginning of the semester, this course will be learning-by-doing. Every student will be assigned a project to solve by numerical simulations. Solutions will be presented at the end of the semester.
