    Description

Dr. Hedwig Eisenbarth, VICTORIA UNIVERSITY OF WELLINGTON

The question about motivations for antisocial behavior is on front pages almost every day, but the psychological and physiological underpinnings are as diverse as antisocial behavior can be. This seminar will put neural correlates of antisocial behavior in the center of several mini lectures and student presentations, taking into account psychopathic personality as one of the risk factors for intense criminal behavior. We will answer questions about how structural and functional brain findings link to behavior and what implications those findings have for the development of treatment interventions. The 2-day seminar will comprise an introductory lecture, a series of student presentations, as well as group discussions.

    Details on course assessment:

    • Selection of topics for presentations based on a list of topics provided by the course coordinator (HE) by the beginning of the semester
    • Presentations should include a critical review of the basic research paper that will be provided plus 1-2 additional research papers retrieved by the student, as well as 2-3 prepared questions for discussion
    • Individual assessments are based on students’ presentations as well as active participation throughout the 2-day course
    • Students can get in touch with the course coordinator via email: hedwig.eisenbarth@vuw.ac.nz
