    Description The lecture gives an introduction to the physics at surfaces and the methods used in systems where the atomic scale determines the properties. What happens in reduced dimensions and when a drastically reduced number of atoms arrange in well-defined structures. Where are the atoms and the electrons. What are the experimental methods.
    Training objectives On successful completion of the course, the student will
    - be familiar with the concept of surfaces
    - know basic experimental methods to study surfaces
    - understand the influence of the surface and reduced dimension on the electronic and crystallographic structure
