    Introduction:

    This seminar is one of two courses dealing with the language learning classroom. This first course (LLC I) provides an introduction to the discourse of ELT, methodologies, roles of the language teacher, classroom language and formulating questions, and the use of technology. This complementary course (Language Learning Classroom II) covers testing & assessment, error correction & feedback, task-based and project-based learning (PBL), classroom management and the use of course books & self-designed materials.  Both courses assume that participants will teach English in Swiss state schools at Secondary I level.

    Training objectives

    Outcomes:

    - Gain awareness of common terminology and concepts associated with the practice of ELT

    - Evaluate course books for use in the language learning classroom

    - Explore ways to use and adapt course book material and teach content

    - Create Tasked Based Learning (TBL) materials

    - Understand how Task-based learning can be effectively used in the ELT classroom

    - Expand knowledge of how and when to offer (different types of) feedback for speaking and written tasks

    - Build knowledge of testing and evaluation

    - Create tests

    - Explore classroom management issues in the EFL classroom

    - Summarize and respond to articles (or videos) addressing theoretical aspects of teaching related to topics covered this semester
