    Description

The term ‘model’ refers to a core scientific activity in and beyond the discipline of geography. But they are also viewed as modes of representation (of processes) as well as tools/instruments. Different concepts, aims and uses of ‘models’ are introduced and compared. More specifically, both social science and natural science perspectives are outlined and discussed.

    The course starts at Monday, 24th September 2018, 10:15 - 12:00

Training objectives The successful candidate can embed different kinds of models in philosophical traditions and theoretical landscapes as well as in diverse relations to practice and their positioning in a research process. Furthermore, the student will be enabled to critically evaluate the selection of (kinds of) models, their performativity with regard to the research object (how is it co-produced by the model?) and the respective impact on the kind of results and their representations.
    Comments

Starts in the second week of the semester.

The students will follow at the beginning of the course some theoretical lectures and at the end of the course they have to present their own project, which they are free to select out of various types of different models.
