Description The course will provide both an overview and specific insights in the geomorphological processes in (high altitude) mountain areas. A particular emphasis will be put on glacial, periglacial, hydrological and mass wasting processes. Students are expected to participate actively to the course (readings, practical). One or two 2-day excursions will be organized in the Alps in April/May.

Training objectives On successful completion of this course you will be able to:
    • identify and characterize the principle geomorphological landforms and their activity in mountain environments (with focus on high altitudes)
    • become more familiar with the physical geography of mountain environments
    • assess the forthcoming challenges of scientific research and human activities in mountain areas.
